Lessons From the Yes Man
In Yes Man Danny had a conversation with a stranger on a bus which led him to live his life in a more positive fashion. He had been in somewhat of a rut, having split from his girlfriend and staying at home for days on end, turning down invitations from friends for nights out. But the stranger gave him some wise information that Danny decided to take – “Say Yes More”. Danny goes on to tell his story of how he said yes to all sorts of invitations – from nights out with mates, having polite conversations with strangers, traveling throughout the world, and meeting hypnotists and monks, amongst many others. This is an amusing book, but it also has a lesson for each of us, although I’m not sure we should go to the lengths Danny does! But, if we learn to live our life more open to the opportunities that are all around us, what would our life be like? What has held you back in the past, which you look back now, and if you had said yes to that opportunity rather than no, would have made your life that much better? How would you deal with that differently now? I’m sure we all have moments in our life that we look back and think, I wish I had taken that opportunity. Perhaps it was a chance to go traveling with friends, or an offer of a job that you felt you weren’t ready for. Perhaps it was even something as little as trying a new food, or accepting an offer of a date. Whatever it was, there’s not much point worrying about it, but you can learn from it. Of course you can’t say yes without really thinking about the downside, but perhaps we could all learn from this and take a chance or two. I challenge you to consider the next opportunity you have with this information, and to live your life more openly. Just Say Yes More. Paul Gent writes regularly in his blog, Everyday Success Tips.
